Since today is a holiday that I do not celebrate, I decided to utilise today and list down new years resolutions for 2010.
Lovely. For my readers out there, (if there is any.. haha) here are some tips on keeping New Year's Resolution. (Compiled by me from googling New Year's resolution. Haha)
Tip #1 Keep your resolutions to a minimum
From hereand here, I found out that you can only effectively keep your new year's resolution if you group them into at most, 7 groups. Any more and your brain cannot effectively deal with the information given.
Tip #2 Details, Details, Details
Details are very important. Instead of saying, I want to learn how to dance this year. Maybe say, what kind of dance. What kind of organisation you want to learn from. Is there any friends who might be joining you? How much are you willing to spend on it. The more details you put into it, the more likely you'll materialise it as you go on through the year.
Once you are done with the visualisations and details and have written them down, stick a small note in a place wherever you will see everyday. Put a copy in your wallet, another on the fridge door and one on your mirror. Wherever you think you will see it everyday. Reading it everyday will drum it in and subconsciously you will take steps to do these things.
Tip #3 Keeping it real
Don't set yourself up for a goal you thought you couldn't achieve. When you do that, you're setting yourself up for failure. People tend to procrastinate using reasons like, I can't possibly do THAT. Why am I even trying?
Gotten a goal you're comfortable with? Now, you need to break it up to smaller manageable goals so as you pass through your little check points, you will be able to motivate yourself to achieve the big picture.
In addition to taking small manageable steps to accomplishing your goal, you shouldn't see your goals as something you must do, like a chore. Instead, you should incorporate it into your life as a fun activity.
You cannot achieve something you believe in so remember to believe in it every day. :D
Well, I guess details, keeping it real, remembering it and keeping it to the minimum will really help your new year's resolution.
To friends our there, Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year! Good luck with your new year's resolution.
